Y-3 and adidas Tennis esthetics for athletic movements at the Roland Garros stadium in Paris

"Tennis attire seems to be a predefined category, which is something we wanted to disrupt," introduces Lawrence Midwood, Design Director Y-3 into the '2016 adidas Roland Garros collection by Y-3'. For the visual appeal, Y-3 was inspired by dazzle camouflage of the 40s, 50s; the stripes appear as in steady motion - even when the player stands still between two points.

From 16 May until 5 June, the next French Open 'Roland Garros' will be held in Paris. On occasion of the French tennis tournament, adidas Tennis and Y-3 teamed up for a special 'Roland Garros' on and off the court collection such as the pieces on view on this page which are dedicated to Serbian tennis player Ana Ivanovic who attracted already magazines like Vogue (watch her workout video series recently published by Vogue).

On occasion of last year's Roland Garros line, Y-3 designer Yohji Yamamoto spoke about his approach to high performance clothing and shoe pieces which have to fulfill the needs of tennis players (video below). Even the Roland Garros 2016 collection was developed together with professional tennis athletes such as Graham Williamson, Senior Director Tennis, explains. Adidas Tennis (clothing and footwear) is represented by players like Ana Ivanovic, Angelique Kerber, Tomas Berdych, Garbiñe Muguruza, Caroline Wozniacki, Simona Halep, Alexander Zverev, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

The '2016 adidas Roland Garros collection by Y-3' is available on adidas.com, Y-3.com and in adidas stores globally since 2 April.
