1997 Malene establishes her first fashion company, Day Birger et Mikkelsen, together with Keld Mikkelsen. Only half a year following her first collection, Malene wins her first Danish Design Award. In June 2002 she leaves Day Birger et Mikkelsen in order to act as a concept developer for a variety of major fashion brands in Denmark.
