Austrians practice #ShopLocal to safe the regional economic life
#ShopLocal isn't a specific Austrian strategy in the days of restrictive measures to flatten the curve of the coronavirus outbreak. It's internationally used to strengthen regional small and middle-sized businesses which in sum provide the highest percentage of workplaces to the job market. They are the so-called 'glue' which holds the communities together. A boutique owner for example who runs the store in many cases in collaboration with tailors or designers who produce their own ranges in adjoint or own workshops causes not only jobs for employees. The boutique stands here representative for small enterprises who secure the existence of the carpenter who makes the interior of the store, the electrician and computer specialists who maintain the technics, the messengers who bring the materials or products to the workshops respectively stores, etc.
Many Austrian store owners run since many years online shops such as the luxury boutique Popp & Kretschmer with own workshop for customized fashion. Popp & Kretschmer is known for the chic selection of exclusive fashion items by international labels.

Currently it's not so easy to find where the producers of the Viennese insider-tips are selling online. A new initiative developed the platform kaufin.at where already around 20 designers, young labels - from fashion, interior, culinary to cosmetics, are offering their products. It's announced that the online shop is continuously growing.
