Second week of self-isolation in Austria: Solidarity is the key
It's the second week of self-isolation in Austria. People who are working in culture, the arts, music, theatre, or sports are hurt heavily by the coronavirus outbreak and the necessary social distancing. Yesterday for example, the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 were postponed. Not to mention all the concerts, festivals, museum exhibitions,... which had to be canceled.
In the meanwhile, most people don't calculate that the pandemic will end in the next weeks and have started to adjust their lives and businesses to the new situation. For some it's easier to change quickly (in the fashion business, it's easier for the ones who have already a popular online shop), others depend on the creativity and the solidarity of others (in Austria, various publications such as falter.at/onlineshop-fibel are listing online shops by regional businesses). 'Solidarity' is the keyword this week. People worldwide stand together to conquer the virus. The coronavirus infects people of all nationalities, ethnicities and makes no difference between people such as UN chief Antonio Guterres pointed out in his call for global ceasefire to focus on "the true fight of our lives". In the last days, several calls to practise solidarity - in the meaning of standing together in these hard times, have arrived at Fashion.at. South Tyrolean label Luis Trenker for example compares solidarity with mountaineering and climbing in a group which secures its members by a rope. When one falls, the others from the roped party can safe the comrade.
The words are emotional and heart-warming; the text ends with the following outlook (translated from the original German text): "The storm will pass, the sun will rise again behind the peaks of the Dolomites, its rays will warm our faces and we will be proud to be able to hang together in the rock face and continue the walk to the summit."
