10 November 2022
The association Austrian Fashion Board started in 2021 as a cross-networking hub for connecting designers and various design initiatives with the aim to provide a wider audience insights into the work of designers and craftspeople. The handmade and mostly unique couture and and ready-to-wear in small series are often only known to an exclusive circle. Now, the AFB made a step into the public for the presentation of the re-interpretation of a signature Viennese clothing piece with reference to the history of Wiener Mode (Viennese Fashion) from the turn of 1900 until the 1970s. The 'Wiener Bluse' (Viennese Blouse) was revived by 33 designers with individual, very different creations and presented together with examples from the lingerie and fashion store 'Rositta', which has been closed since 2016. The Wiener Bluse models produced by Rositta were supplied to stores in Europe and the USA. Textile materials and paper packaging of the producer and retailer were placed together with the new designs in rooms of the Narrenturm where artifacts from the pathological-anatomical collection of the Natural History Museum Vienna are usually exhibited.
The presentation on 9 November in Vienna was the premiere. It's announced that the 'Wiener Bluse' exhibition will be on view in December in Graz, Styria and during Easter at the Traklhaus in Salzburg. Since yesterday, the blouse designs can be viewed with images, descriptions including title of the piece, inspiration behind and used materials at the catalog published at austrianfashion.org. |
