Art-to-wear exhibition tip in Vienna: Jewelry and fashion as wearable art by Eva Petric at Galerie V&V

Fashion.at visited the summer event at Galerie V&V, known for its well-chosen art-jewelry collections. Since the 1980s, the gallery has been an important player at the intersection of art, fashion and jewelry. V&V, named after its founders Veronika Schwarzinger and Verena Formanek, entered the art-design field on the wave of a booming fashion design scene in Vienna with names like Helmut Lang, for whom artists around and from V&V contributed art-jewelry. Galerie V&V is celebrating 42 years in the art business this year with a retrospective exhibition that opens on August 24. "42/24," Veronika Schwarzinger told Fashion.at to mark the date in the calendar.

Today the gallery is run by Veronika Schwarzinger. The original paths of V&V were never completely abandoned, even though the art aspect of jewelry was elaborated over the years, as can be seen in the current exhibition of art jewelry and art fashion by Slovenian artist Eva Petric, who lives in Ljubljana, New York and Vienna. The artist is active with exhibitions all over the world. Fashion.at recently met her in Gmunden, Upper Austria at the Parallel Skulpturenpark and talked to her about her work (article). Space, earth, climate change are also the themes of the multidisciplinary artist's latest short film, which was presented at the gallery.

Fashion.at arrived at the gallery with the bicycle earlier than expected (the bicycle is the fastest means of transportation in the city) and just in time for the pre-opening video screening of 'Holes in Light,' which presents statistical data on environmental damage over the decades with footage of a satellite on Earth overlaid with images of Petric's signature 'Earthlings,' a shadow of the artist that appears as a genome-like structured lace figure. The Earthlings are also incorporated into most of the art-fashion pieces in the Art-To-Wear-Aktion collection and the art-jewelry E@motionOmeter, which addresses the emotional side of the fragility of human life.

Fashion.at talked to Eva Petric about her art-fashion pieces, which are part of the artist's ongoing work about humans, earth and space. Each piece has its own story, such as the striped 'Cross Pattern' dress, which was presented years ago in the fashion boutique of the Viennese design label Tiberius. Another, made of gold knit, features the Earthling as an application. The clothing pieces are presented with text information such as the 'Cross Pattern' dress: "We are like threads, caught into loops of emotions in the patterns of past and future generations..."

Eva Petric published views of the summer event on Instagram, such as the post on https://www.instagram.com/p/C93W70_I5HU/, including a portrait with Veronika Schwarzinger.
