Austrian Prize for Ecological Textiles 'Vivienne' opened it's online voting

Voting has begun for the audience award of 'Vivienne' 2024, the Austrian Prize for Ecological Textiles, which premiered last year. Vivienne, organized by the COMÚN Foundation and the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, highlights outstanding fashion designers who focus on sustainability. The prize is awarded in three categories: a jury prize of 5,000 euros, a youth prize of 1,000 euros and an audience prize of 2,000 euros. For the latter, five nominees have been selected by an expert jury for public voting, which is open until September 2, 2024. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Vienna on September 20, 2024, where Federal Minister Leonore Gewessler and COMÚN Chairwoman Veronika Bohrn Mena will present the awards.

The nominees show different approaches to the design of and/or with ecological textiles. Gerald Brandstätter for example creates fashion with fabrics developed from waste and leftovers, which are shredded and bound into a new surface. The designer has presented the collection in June 2024 at the show of the art university in the capital of Upper Austria, Kunstuni Linz, Department Fashion & Technology at the Künstlerhaus in Vienna. Insights into the show are published on https://www.kunstuni-linz.at/universitaet/organisation/institute/raum-und-design/fashion-technology/fat-fashion-show-2024.
