For decades, Swarovski has been known for affordable jewelry with a fashionable twist on classics. In recent years, under the creative direction of Giovanna Engelbert, the jewelry range has been expanded to include new lines that are more fashionable and made with larger crystals. During the last years, with the increasing inflation in Austria, the prices went up not only because of the larger crystals. Last year, in September 2023, a new line was launched in the USA and Canada, which again raises the price level at Swarovski, but at the same time makes high-quality jewelry more affordable: Swarovski has introduced lab-grown diamonds, which have the same quality as mined diamonds but are available at a more attractive price and are considered more ethical and environmentally friendly. Swarovski Created Diamonds pieces are not only made from the same material used in Haute Joaillerie, some of the pieces are also available in the same way - by order only, such as a necklace from the 'Galaxy' collection designed by Giovanna Engelbert and worn by model Anok at the MET Gala in May 2024 (the making of video of the necklace is published on YouTube). The new line was promoted throughout the year with stars such as Jennifer Lawrence, who wore a diamond necklace to the 2024 Oscars. Since the launch of the new line last year, the Created Diamonds pieces have been presented at events such as the 'Masters of Light - from Vienna to Shanghai' (video) and 'Masters of Light - from Vienna to Milan' (video) exhibitions with celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow. Vienna in the name of the exhibitions refers to the history of Swarovski. Founder Daniel Swarovski was inspired by the new possibilities of electricity seen at the 1883 International Electrical Exhibition in Vienna and invented an electrically powered crystal cutting machine. Today, Fashion.at attended the press event at the Swarovski Kristallwelten Store on Kärntner Straße in Vienna, where some signature pieces from the first collections of lab-grown diamonds were presented, along with an introduction to the making of the precious stones, which are indistinguishable from mined ones. Each diamond is graded by the International Gemological Institute (IGI) before being used in a piece of jewelry. One year after the roll-out began, and with previous successes in the USA, China and Japan, Swarovski today launched its lab-grown diamond collections in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The 'Galaxy' and 'Eternity' collections offer a variety of necklaces, rings, earrings and bracelets with lab-grown diamonds. The Galaxy collection is designed by Giovanna Engelbert and reflects cosmic inspiration, while the Eternity collection highlights classic designs and showcases diamonds up to 3 carats in gold or sterling silver settings. The Eternity collection includes solitaire engagement rings with matching wedding rings, earrings and hoops, pendants, tennis chains and bracelets. In Austria, the collections are available in selected stores and on the Swarovski website.
