Austria's fluffiest bathroom star Vossen celebrates its 100th anniversary
Golden Century Collection: A Touch of Elegance
To celebrate its centenary, Vossen has announced the release of the "Golden Century" collection of jacquard terry towels and bathrobes. The design of the bathrobes reflects the company's rich heritage and history of pioneering the development of terry towels and bathrobes. The Golden Century collection pieces are woven with fine gold threads, adding a subtle touch of luxury to any bathroom.
A Century of Innovation and Expansion
Founded on May 6, 1925, by Burghardt Vossen in Gütersloh, Germany, Vossen aimed to make towels, once considered a luxury, accessible to all. A significant milestone was the 1951 patent for the terry cloth house and bathrobe, which contributed to the company's rapid growth (source: Vossen.com). At its peak, Vossen employed 3,500 individuals and expanded internationally, establishing a production facility in Jennersdorf, Austria, in 1961, which remains operational today.
Sustainable Practices and Global Reach
Vossen processes 1,400 tons of raw yarn annually, producing 5.3 million products under sustainable conditions and socially responsible standards. The company employs energy-efficient machinery with heat recovery systems and utilizes an environmentally friendly cold pad-batch dyeing process. This method ensures that water used from the local Raab River is treated and returned clean, minimizing environmental impact. Vossen's commitment to sustainability is further evident in its production of the world's first vegan-certified towel collection, "Vegan Life," and the development of "Everyarn," a recycled yarn contributing to a circular economy.
Diverse Color Palette and Design Collaborations
Offering over 100 colors, Vossen continually updates its palette to align with current trends. The company has also engaged in design collaborations with notable Austrian designers, resulting in unique collections that showcase the versatility of terry cloth. Creative director and brand manager Michaela Samer, who has been responsible for the designs for the past nearly 30 years, offers a glimpse into Vossen's atelier with a video on Instagram.
Dedicated Workforce and Community Impact
With a team of 250 employees, 58% of whom are women, Vossen emphasizes the importance of its workforce in achieving success. The company's operations not only provide local employment but also contribute to the regional economy, underscoring its role as a significant player in Austria's textile industry.
As Vossen celebrates 100 years, the Golden Century collection highlights the brand's enduring commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability, shaping the textile industry for a century. Fashion.at wishes Vossen a very happy birthday!
