Behind the Scenes Video: Making of the Pondichéry Coat with reference to Toile de Jouy for Dior Men Winter 2025-2026 by Kim Jones

In Dior's latest today published YouTube video "Exploring Kim Jones's Archive Inspirations for Dior Men Winter 2025-2026," viewers get a behind-the-scenes look at how Kim Jones and his team explored Dior's archives to craft the latest collection. A highlight is the reinterpretation of the 1954 Moulin Rouge coat into two distinct Pondichéry opera coats, one featuring embroidery inspired by the 1948 Haute Couture look Pondichéry. This design plays with volume, transitioning from tailored to flared silhouettes, drawing from the women's collection and adapted with a belt for a masculine touch. With its meticulous craftsmanship and opulent materials, the belted men's coat appears almost like a haute couture piece—despite haute couture being traditionally exclusive to women's fashion. Through this approach, Dior not only reinterprets historical designs but also challenges the definition of haute couture itself, questioning its long-established gender boundaries and exploring a more fluid vision of luxury tailoring.

The collection also incorporates embroidery inspired by Toile de Jouy, a historic French textile pattern dating back to 1760, famously used by Christian Dior to line the walls of his Colifichets boutique at 30 Avenue Montaigne. Until today, Toile de Jouy remains a signature print for Dior, adorning tableware, notebooks, scarves, and more. This seamless blend of archival references and contemporary craftsmanship highlights #DiorSavoirFaire.
