Fashion.at gastro 'marina' tip: The new gastronomy destination 'Das Bootshaus' opened recently at Alte Donau with own landing stage for guest boats

Fashion.at visited the new gastronomy location 'Das Bootshaus' at Alte Donau, a historical recreation area of the Viennese with strong roots in the city's water sports and back-to-nature culture of the mid-19th and early 20th century.

Vienna's first rowing club ('Erste Wiener Ruderclub LIA', founded 1863) located nearby at the next corner is used until today by professional as well as hobby athletes. The ground of Das Bootshaus itself is historical; in the early 20th century, the colony 'Neu Brasilien' was initiated by naturopath Florian Berndl (keyword: back-to-nature). Today, 'Neu Brasilien' is a settlement of small gardens.

In late April, Das Bootshaus was opened as pop-up outdoor location and will be extended in autumn by the renovated building of the former tavern 'Neu Brasilien' under the new name (translated from German 'The Boat House') which is also meant as invitation to the ones who are active in water sports at Alte Donau to dock their boats at the landing stage. The current menu of Das Bootshaus can be described as 'light cuisine' served the whole day through - even the typical Viennese breakfast isn't limited to the morning. The offer reaches from snacks like toasts, salads over pastries (provided by the owners' famous Viennese coffee house 'Landtmann'), smoothies to beverages such as lemonades created by Landtmann like (on view at the image) raspberry & lemon or ginger & lime.
