Austria.info publishes list of upcoming Austrian Easter markets, introductions into selected customs and the recipe for the traditional Easter cake 'Reindling'

The information (markets, customs, recipe) concerning the upcoming Easter season is published practically on one page on Austria.info beginning with selected locations and dates of the markets in the nine Austrian federal states starting with Vienna and the big players in the Easter market programme such as Schönbrunn palace. The forerunner of Schönbrunn palace, Schloss Neugebäude (where the prominent 'Gloriette' originally comes from) isn't mentioned at the list but organizes also an Easter market with booths providing food, arts & crafts from jewelry to clothing, and Easter typical products such as decorated eggs; additionally to the market booths, egg decoration workshops or other play-like activities can be found at many of the events. Schönbrunn runs the market from 6 to 22 April, Schloss Neugebäude from 11 to 14 April (details). It's a rare chance to explore the Renaissance palace Neugebäude as it's closed most of the time.

The Austria.info list of markets can be summarized as a selection of quality markets providing authentic tradition in an international atmosphere. Many of the locations are Austrian landmarks such as Schönbrunn in Vienna, Schloss Hof in Lower Austria (opens already in March), or Burg Forchtenstein in Burgenland. In Styria, the Schladming-Dachstein region invites to a sporty event, the Easter egg hunt on skis on 18 April, and in Salzburg, Easter is celebrated with the high-culture festival 'Osterfestspiele'.

The events, which are contributed to spring-awakening as well as to the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, are accompanied by specific customs which differ between the regions. Austria.info mentions some of the regional traditions such as the passion play in Tresdorf, Carinthia with silent gestures.

From Carinthia, the most southern Austrian federal state with borders to Italy and Slovenia, is also the recipe of the 'Reindling' Easter cake. The cake is filled with nuts, cinnamon and raisins.
