Vienna’s Newest Proposal Trend: Picnics with a View

Marriage Rates Decline, but Special Moments Remain in Demand

Despite a decline in marriage rates, the desire for unique and meaningful proposals is stronger than ever in Austria. According to Statistics Austria, 44,924 couples married in 2024, marking a 2.0% decrease from the previous year. The trend extended to registered partnerships, with 1,857 couples formalizing their unions, a 5.0% drop from 2023. Divorce rates also fell, with 14,344 marriages ending in 2024, a 2.6% decrease from the previous year. However, while fewer couples are opting for marriage, the importance of creating unforgettable proposal moments remains. In Vienna, a new trend has emerged: using the city's scenic landscapes as a backdrop for romantic marriage proposals.

Vienna Picnics: Crafting Unforgettable Proposals

As temperatures rise and the first hints of spring arrive, Fashion.at received news about Vienna Picnics' "Proposal & Picnic" packages—an offering designed to transform marriage proposals into magical experiences. Founded two years ago by Maggy Müller, Vienna Picnics specializes in luxury outdoor setups tailored to the wishes of couples looking to pop the question in a unique setting.

Scenic Locations for Memorable Moments

While the press release did not specify exact locations, Müller shared insights during a phone conversation with Fashion.at today. One standout venue is Bellevue Wiese at Himmelstraße 115, a location that not only matches the romantic occasion with its name but also provides a breathtaking panoramic view over Vienna.

For couples looking to propose near water, Müller recommended Arena Beach, a new 1,100-square-meter sandy beach in Kaisermühlenbucht on the New Danube. This public area, which features a shallow water zone and newly planted trees for shade, provides a picturesque and relaxed setting for an unforgettable proposal.

Comprehensive Services with a Personal Touch

Vienna Picnics takes care of all logistics, including securing necessary permissions for the chosen location. Each proposal package includes sparkling wine (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), a bouquet of fresh roses for the proposer to present, and a heart-shaped cake created by Astrid Köberl of the Wiener Backsalon. Köberl, who developed a passion for baking at an early age, crafts customized cakes with personal messages such as "I love you" or the couple's names.

A Growing Trend in Vienna's Proposal Scene

Since its inception in 2023, Vienna Picnics has seen growing demand for its proposal packages. The combination of event planning and a luxurious picnic setup has struck a chord with couples looking for an elegant and stress-free way to mark their engagement.

Blending Tradition with New Trends

Vienna, a city known for its rich history and romantic charm, continues to inspire new trends in engagement celebrations. As a connoisseur of Vienna's landscapes, culinary delights, and the art of staging romantic moments, Müller draws from the city's diverse settings to create personalized and picturesque proposals.
