fig.: Adinkra-scarf for mourning clothes, Ghana. The scarf is made of fabric stripes which are first stitched together. Afterwards the scarf is stamp-printed with black color, 20th century.
The African weavers of the Ashanti and Ewe produce fabrics in small stripes which are 2 or 3 meters long. Afterwards they stitch the stripes together. The patterns are woven, printed or embroidered. The exhibition is a memorial for the independence of the first African country Ghana 50 years ago. more culture >>>
