History changes with the linkings to our memories.
Even the iconography of stars is fashioned by time.
Manon de Boer (born 1966 in Kodaicanal, India) presents works about the perception of time and the writing of history. The title of her exhibition is taken from an essay by the
Italian philosopher Giorgio Agamben 'The Time That Is Left'. History is not a linear sequence of events but rather the experience of
continuously working through, selecting and linking memories in a very specific
way. Using personal narration as a method, de Boer explores the relationship
between language, time and claims to truth. The narrated personal histories of
iconic figures from different contexts, such as Sylvia Kristel, allow
the artist to explore concepts of memory and belief, and through this to
investigate correspondences between lived time and history.
