The Museum for Art and Crafts (Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe) in Hamburg presents in this exhibition about cherry blossoms, the Japanese symbol of feminine beauty, its collection of representative woodcarving masterpieces by renowned artists such as Andô Hiroshige of the 17th until 19th century.
In Japan Sakura, the cherry blossom, stands for spring and the melancholic sense of beauty. The Sakura symbolizes Vanitas, the meaninglessness of earthly life and the transient nature of vanity.
