TOM BURR: ADDICT - LOVE 13 January - 30 March 2008 SculptureCenter, Long Island City, NY

SculptureCenter (founded by artists in 1928) presents experimental and innovative developments in contemporary sculpture. Since 2001, SculptureCenter exhibits works at a former trolley repair shop in Long Island City, Queens, which includes 6,000 square feet of space.

Tom Burr packs wit and melancholy in a theatrically arrangement of a vintage 1970s Chanel dress, vintage turntable, record and album cover of "Four Saints in Three Acts" composed by Virgil Thomson, libretto by Gertrude Stein (written in the late 1920ies) to narrate the history of modernity, personalities and its style. Enjoy Burr's sculptures made of citations from film, theater, music, architecture, and various underground cultures questioning the foundations of identity construction and subjectivity.

Tom Burr is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts and the Whitney Independent Study Program and now lives and works in Norfolk, Connecticut and New York. Burr has exhibited throughout Europe in solo and group exhibitions and was included in the 2004 Whitney Biennial.
