The glamorous and 'dark' sides of fashion and beauty

On Monday 30 July 2012, the documentary 'About Face: Supermodels Then and Now' by director Timothy Greenfield-Sanders will debut excusively on HBO. 'About Face' explores the lives of prominent women who are known from the front side of fashion, beauty and film cameras like Isabella Rossellini, Carmen Dell'Orefice, Jerry Hall, to name only three from the list of appearing 20th century most viewed visages.

Main themes of the provocative HBO special is the glamorous world of fashion and beauty super models as well as the 'dark' sides of the business such as substance abuse, race and plastic surgery.

Carmen Dell'Orefice says about cosmetic surgery: "Well, if you had the ceiling falling down in your living room, would you not go and have a repair?"

Model and actress Isabella Rossellini offers a different perspective, wondering, "Is this the new foot binding? Is this a new way to be misogynist? Is this a new way to tell women that you are ugly?"

And Jerry Hall adds, "Of course it's no fun getting old and sick and dying. We all know that's coming and it's a bore," she says. "Why shouldn't we be allowed to age?"
