Skiing in the 70ies

...review on Sunday, 23 September 2012 by Karin Sawetz

Sundays with the family are a good time to look back in time and search the photo album for depicted archived memories; such as the image on this page which shows me in the early 1970ies on skis on a mountain nearby Vienna.

I remember that skiing was not only sports for me, but the experience of an absolutely different surrounding than I knew from the metropolitan city Vienna: the air which is free from the pollution in the city, the smell of the mountain pines (I used it later even in the city as refreshing oil - it also relaxes muscles after sport), the landscape of snowy slopes and peaks - some of them in cloud-cushions.

I loved skiing as a child and will remember these happy moments my whole life through.

fig.: The photo shows me in a white woolen pullover, black ski trousers and red socks which were covered by snow and ice after skiing a whole day through. The skis had been red wooden 'Brettln' (Austrian word for skis) by Fischer with cable binding (which didn't open during falling), the boots were made of brown leather and looked like mountaineer shoes with lacing,
The photo was captured in 1971 on the Rax in Austria. I look on the image like an 'old' skier; well, I began to learn it with three years. (I have an older brother and my parents started sports programs like cycling or skiing for both of us at the same time.)
