On 15 June 2013, the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 opened with the match Brazil - Japan (calendar until 30 June). Already on the same day, FIFA partner adidas provided some views captured by photographers of Getty Images on the outfits of the players and the ball, the 'Cafusa' ball. Cafusa refers to the Brazilian flag (colors) and culture (name). The name merges the words carnival, football and samba.

Adidas has a long tradition in delivering the balls to the FIFA events. Since 1970, adidas contributes the official ball to all FIFA World Cup matches. They carry names like 'Tango' for the World Cup in Argentina, 'Azteca' for the plays in Mexico, or 'Tricolore' for the matches in France. After the Confederations Cup 2013, the World Cup will be held in Brazil in 2014; the name of next year's ball is 'Brazuca' - it's the first ball name that was selected by football fans themselves by voting for it. The name is an informal term used in Brazil and refers Brazilian lifestyle, zest for life and the country's approach to football.
