Inspiring children's books

...seen in early November 2013.

Children's books are like adventure journeys where identity is built by sending the young readers (and listeners) on mental orienteering. The words, their messages, and the illustrations will accompany the readers the whole life through.

  • Recently, Vienna-based design label Liniert presented the Fall/Winter 2013/14 pieces with an image series that was shot in the subway, some of them in front of world statistics. The fashion presentation pays homage to the Austrian author Mira Lobe and her children's book 'The Little 'I-am-me' about a little individual that becomes aware of its own self.

  • Fondation Cartier Paris for example publishes coloring books which send children on discovery of the world of art by getting interactive with sketches by contemporary artists.

  • And this year's winner of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award 2103, Isol (from Buenos Aires, Argentina) navigates children through dreams and fears with stories and illustrations that are derived from comics, music culture and literature. She is cited in the video below: "I don't want to teach people anything with my books. I want to tell them unusual and hopefully fun stories about problems big and small - about fear, identity issues and other things that affect us humans - both children and adults."

The list of candidates for the ALMA 2014 is a good source for quality children's books.
