Exhibition of 100 years of drawn, painted fashion images published via editorial media

The exhibition 'Drawing Fashion' introduces into the interpretative power of illustrated images. The 165 paintings, sketches and illustrations created with various other graphical methods are from the collection of gallery owner, collector and expert of the art of illustration Joëlle Chariau. They document the depiction of fashion over around 100 years in media like Vogue or The New York Times. The illustrations - which carry an additional Zeitgeist message of the distinctive time, have been collected over 28 years by Joëlle Chariau and were shown for the first time in 2010/2011 at Design Museum London. From 19 December 2014 until 3 May 2015, the collection will be on view under the title 'Drawing Fashion' at MKG Hamburg.

In late October, Fashionoffice selected two exemplary images from MKG's preview. The image left is an example for an early fashion drawing from the 1910s (these years mark the beginning of modern fashion illustrations reinforced by Haute Couture which presented this way new creations via media publications) and on the image right, the interpretative illustration of Jil Sander's fashion from the end of the 20th century.
