"The Prize is an important contribution to the open participation of younger
artists in the dynamic cultural development of societies in global transition," is the Future Generation Art Prize described at the terms (checked on 16 January 2014). It's the third time since 2009 that the FGAP calls artists to join the biennial international competition. In 2012, British painter Lynette Yiadom-Boakye won the Future Generation Art Prize. The content of her paintings is created from fiction, found images and her memories, ideas which are recorded as writings in scrapbooks. Lynette Yiadom-Boakye portraits of black characters are described by The Guardian on occasion of her nomination for last year's 2013 Turner Prize: "Her people are often androgynous, but her plays on gender never seem to count for as much as they could: we just say "figure" rather than man or woman." Recently, the painter's/writer's new works under the title 'Verses' were exhibited at the PinchukArtCenter in Kiev, Ukraine.

On 13 January 2014, the application period for the international 'Future Generation Art Prize 2014' started and will be open until 12 April. The timeline of the art prize is long but offers some benefits for shortlisted artists such as the exhibition of their works from May until September 2015 during 56th Venice Biennale. According to the terms, artists can produce (in agreement with the organizers, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation) even new special works for the exhibition which will premiere in October 2014 at the headquarters of the prize at PinchukArtCentre in Kiev. The winner will receive the award in December 2014. Invited are artists between 18 and 35 years.
