Embroideries of the traditional Romanian women's shirt

On 24 June on occasion of the 'International Day of the Romanian Blouse', a group of culture preservation activisits from Gorj County (at the Carpathian Mountains, Romania) introduced with the public exhibition of blouses, live music and dance performance into Romanian tradition inside and in front of the Palmenhaus at the Burggarten in Vienna. The embroideries carry information about age and status of women; the more color, the younger the women are. The parts of the blouse such as upper sleeve, lower sleeve or the embroidery at the front or at the end of the sleeve have in the most cases distinctive decorations. The combination of the motif of the flower, mostly arranged in geometrical order, with graphical patterns is signature for the Romanian blouse. On Facebook, an article incl. images about the history of the blouse and its impact on art (Henri Matisse) and fashion (Yves Saint Laurent) is published.
