3 October 2018 Until 7 October, items by product and furniture designer Klemens Schillinger are exhibited at the festival headquarters of Vienna Design Week 2018 at Apollogasse 19 at the city's 7th district. Last Friday on 28 September, Klemens Schillinger (studied at FH Joanneum in Graz and the Royal Collage of Art in London) received the first ever Swarovski Award for Excellence in Austrian Design. Klemens Schillinger's minimalist design which interacts with spaces intervention-like and in a humorous way convinced the international jury. Schillinger was selected from nine nominees by this year's jury consisting of Aric Chen (M+Hongkong, Curator-at-Large), Alice Rawsthorn (Design Critic, London), Stefan Sagmeister (Designer, New York), Nadja Swarovski (Swarovski, Member of the Executive Board), and Lilli Hollein (Director of Vienna Design Week). fig. above: Vienna Design Week 2018 headquarters, exhibition view of products designed by 'Swarovski Award for Excellence in Austrian Design' winner Klemens Schillinger such as the Vases for Corners, the practical (can float over the sofa) Pac Table which seems to set gravity out of force, or the chandelier with candles on spark plugs and bejewelled with crystals. It's announced that the award with the crystalline trophy (on view at the embedded post below) designed by Ron Arad for the Atelier Swarovski Home Decór line will be given every two years to creatives.
