15 September 2018 Today, Fashion.at came accidentally along the Kugelmugel house at Antifaschismusplatz at Prater in Vienna and took the chance to explore this art-architecture jewel. Fashion.at joined the guided tour through the globe-shaped building. It's not allowed to enter the building without guide. Currently on 15 and 16 September, more than 70 buildings at various locations in Vienna can be visited for free! The 'Open House' events focus on the architecture of buildings such as the wooden house with the name 'Kugelmugel' (which is a word creation of 'sphere' and 'mound' or 'ground wave') once built by the Austrian artist Edwin Lipburger. The house caused several disputes concerning the freedom of art and unauthorized assumption of authority (keyword 'Republic', history); after placing boundary signs, the artist was imprisoned. These disputes were caused by the sphere's architectural construction which wasn't compliant with the building regulations of the Republic of Austria during the 1970s. The 'Republik Kugelmugel' house consists of two floors; at the second, the art installation 'Rebellion als Phantomschmerz' (Rebellion as Phantom Pain) by Alex Kubik and Andreas Stasta filled the space very dominantly. But the very conspicuous art exhibition wasn't theme at the tour today at all - even when visitors had to look through canvas curtains to watch the guide. 'Open House' is exclusively about the architectural history of Vienna. After the tour, Fashion.at received a printed map with the title 'Entdecke Deine Stadt' (Explore Your City). The map is published digitally at openhouse-wien.at. |
