Annual urban aesthetics festival 'Calle Libre' (Spanish for 'Free Street' ) questions from 3 to 10 August 2019 under the topic 'Duality' the construction of reality

Each year, the urban aesthetics festival 'Calle Libre' explores the city of Vienna from new angles and inspires people to look more closely at their surrounding and reflect upon the environment they are living in.

The works of last year's festival under the title 'Cinco' referenced the 5th anniversary of Calle Libre as well as the five senses and five elements. The artworks on murals were placed in five districts of Vienna - such as Brazilian artist Eduardo Kobra's collage at Wiedner Hauptstrasse showing a portrait of Gustav Klimt with cat in front of the interpretation of Egon Schiele's 'Krumau - Crescent of Houses (The Small City V)'. The 'Cinco' 2018 works are currently on view with description at callelibre.at/artists.

At the callelibre.at website, an introduction into this year's theme 'Duality' questioning the construction of reality from defining opposites like positive vs. negative, true vs. false is published together with the festival's program including guided urban art tours, workshops as well as the list where live paintings will happen between 5 and 9 August 2019.

It's announced that on the opening day of the festival on 3 August, the book 'CINCO - Five Years of Urban Art in Vienna' will be presented at Wien Museum where currently the exhibition and public skate park 'Takeover Street Art & Skateboarding' (article) celebrates urban lifestyle with workshops and skateboard courses until 1 September.
