Deciphering the designs of the victory ceremony costumes of the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022

The Olympic Winter Games will start in one month on 4 February in Beijing. Recently, the first views at the cultural side of the games with information about the designs of the mascot and the emblem were presented (article). Now, the ideas and meaning behind the three costume sets for the victory ceremonies were published. The designs of the outfits in the color versions red and blue are developed from three sources - the cultural heritage of China, modern fashion, and the aesthetics of the Olympic sports event.

Each of the three costume sets which are composed as outfits from the hats to the boots as well as self-heating underwear, is named after a poetically sounding concept: 'Lucky Snow and Cloud' (at the image above the two costumes at the left) is the name of the design which will be used for snow sports victory ceremonies. The basis of the design concept is sourced from the country's cultural heritage. The incorporated Chinese symbols for 'snow' and 'clouds' and traditional clothing are interpreted in a modern clothing style with couture appeal. The embroideries are inspired by traditional Chinese landscape painting.

More details about the two other design concepts 'Great Landscape' which is inspired by the Chinese painting 'A Thousand Miles of Mountains and Rivers' (two outfits at the right) and the 'Flying Snow in Tang Dynasty' (outfits showing flowers and snowflake patterns, in the middle) with reference to the Chinese traditional fabrics of the Tang Dynasty
