Tip from the Austrian Olympic Team for fans from Austria: Get your tickets for the 2026 Olympic Games in Milano Cortina, close to your home in the Alps, before the sale starts

Austria, with a population of 9.1 million (in 2024), has consistently excelled at the Winter Olympics, winning far more medals than at the Summer Games. At the last Winter Olympics, Austrian athletes secured an impressive tally in disciplines such as alpine skiing, ski jumping, snowboarding or luge: 18 medals in Beijing 2022, 14 medals in PyeongChang 2018, 17 in Sochi 2014, etc. This winter sports tradition makes the upcoming 2026 Olympic Games in Milano Cortina, close to home in the Alps, a highly anticipated event for Austrian fans and athletes alike.

This week the Olympic Team Austria sent out the information that ticket registration is now open. The Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games (February 6-22, 2026) are just over a year away, and registration to secure tickets is now open until January 15, 2025. It's expected that more than 2,900 athletes from around the world will compete over 19 days in venues from Milan to the Italian Alps. How many athletes from Austria will qualify for the Olympics will be decided in the months leading up to Milano Cortina. The Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC) encourages Austrian fans to register early to secure tickets for this opportunity to experience the Games close to home.

The closest destination to the Austrian border is Anterselva (Antholz). Anterselva is located in South Tyrol, which is close to the Austrian region of Tyrol, making it the closest of the 2026 Winter Olympics destinations. It's been announced that the biathlon competitions will be held there. Bormio, for example, is also not far from the border with Tyrol, Austria. It will host the men's alpine skiing and the first-ever Olympic ski mountaineering events. Ski mountaineering as a new Olympic discipline was recently mentioned in a Fashion.at article about the Austrian company Martini Sportswear, the official outfitter of the ski mountaineers of the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV).

Ticket sales will officially begin on February 6, 2025, exactly one year before the games begin. To ensure fair access, tickets will be distributed through a lottery system in the first phase.

The information has been sent with a guide on how to participate in the lottery
1. Register at tickets.milanocortina2026.org/en by January 15, 2025. Registration is free and non-binding.
2. Participants in the lottery will receive an email with a personal time slot to purchase tickets starting February 6, 2025.

Unclaimed tickets will go on public sale beginning April 6, 2025.

Editor's note: The information on medals in previous years, the competition schedule and the tickets was fast checked today by Fashion.at on olympics.com.
