Dance takes over Vienna again – for everyone, in every style

The 42nd edition of ImPulsTanz – Vienna International Dance Festival returns this summer from 10 July to 10 August 2025, transforming Vienna's Arsenal into an international hotspot for movement, choreography, and artistic exchange. With 251 workshops and research projects led by 154 teaching artists, the festival offers an expansive programme that is now available both online and – as of today – in printed format, as received by Fashion.at.

Navigating a comprehensive offer: print vs. online

The printed programme, rich in content and detail, offers a linear and immersive way to explore the wide variety of classes, styles, and departments – from Ballet, HipHop & Club Styles, Jazz, and Improvisation, to specialised programmes like Golden Age (for people 60+), All Abilities, Theory, or Teacher Training. It's an invitation to physically browse, mark pages, and plan at leisure.

The online version published on impulstanz.com offers a more targeted approach. In the Workshops category, users can click on the "Department" button to browse through 18 departments using an intuitive overlay interface to filter and find classes - and book instantly. It's a faster, more interactive way to tailor a summer of dance.

Highlights include 'Dance for Camera' – a workshop for the social media age

Among the less immediately self-explanatory categories is "Composition". Here, Jermaine Browne's workshop "Dance for Camera" stands out. Designed to explore how dance translates to screen, it is particularly relevant for artists looking to create compelling video content for social media platforms and digital storytelling. Browne's experience in both choreography and visual presentation supports dancers in refining their performance for the lens – a valuable skill in today's media landscape.

Videos bring workshops to life – thanks to Pramatarov and Zimmel

The online programme is enriched by well-produced trailers by Maximilian Pramatarov and Emma Zimmel. Pramatarov, a photographer and videographer from Sofia, based in Vienna, is known for his cross-disciplinary visual storytelling that blends the poetic with the abstract. Zimmel, a Vienna-based videodesigner with a background in media technology and stage design, specialises in emotionally charged video work for dance and performance. Their videos add a cinematic layer to the workshop programme, offering a sneak peek into the festival's dynamic energy.

Open Doors – watch or join the rhythm

One of these videos is featured in the 'Open Doors' section – a programme that allows the public to visit workshops at Arsenal, observe sessions, feel the pulse of the room, and even join jam sessions. The open format creates a welcoming space for curiosity, exchange, and spontaneous inspiration. The highlighted video features footage from the Freestyle Dance Contest 2024, cut to the energetic beat of "Milka" by SunnySun & Moska. With music, movement, and atmosphere seamlessly edited, it captures the festival's spirit – where raw talent, creativity, and diversity meet on and off the floor. Amazing how many international dancers return each year, creating a temporary but vibrant community of artistry and expression. → Watch the video
