On important courtly, public or religious holidays, the members of the knightly orders and of the civil orders of merit would parade in their old-fashioned, magnificent robes, and even ladies had to wear specified clothes. But the heterogenous traditions of the numerous peoples comprising the Austro-Hungarian Empire influenced everything, including uniforms and liveries, robes and formal gowns.
