Ethical Fashion Show®
9 -12 October 2008
at the Carrousel du Louvre, Paris

Ethical Fashion Show® announces the 5th edition of the designer shows for the ones who know that ecological and fair fashion is not just a passing trend. The shows will happen from 9 -12 October 2008 at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris. Interested designers can apply until end of May 2008.

Q: Who are the winners of the Ethical Fashion Show prize in 2007? Do you organise the prize each year?

Each year at Ethical Fashion Show we organise the Ethical Fashion Show award. Founded on the Chartre of Good Conduct it encourages the designer in his or her development. In 2007 in parternship with Summer Rayne Oakes, the winner received a cheque for 1000 USD.

photos: Nanduti (France, Argentina, Paraguay) is the winner of the prize 2007. In order to promote the traditional skills of her two home countries —Argentina and Paraguay— this young Argentinian designer launched Ñanduti, meaning spider’s web in Guarani. Cotton embroideries and lace designed by Paraguayan artisans are the basis of the collections, which are then made in a Buenos Aires workshop. The aim is to use natural, organic, or artisan raw materials and to take part in the coming together of vulnerable Latin America markets, and their international relations.

2 further prizes were awarded to Ombre Claire and Moyi Ekolo.

Q: On your website you publish an information about a study under the title “Who buys ethical fashion”. Can you tell us more about this study?

The Label Attitude study was carried out in 2007 in partnership with Carlin International, a design agency, Monica Fossati, editor in chief of Ekwo magazine and Alexandre Pasche agency director of Eco&Co. The five-part story describes ethical fashion’s different families: how they live, what they like, what they wear. It is a way for people to recognise among their customers the people committing to the new trend.

Q: You select designers for the Ethical Fashion Show under certain aspects. Therefore Universal Love has created a questionnaire. Who is Universal Love and what is the connection to Ethical Fashion Show?

Universal Love is a not-profit organisation founded in 1995. Today the organisation has over 100 members and has played a key role in promoting sustainable development, fair trade and ethical fashion. Since 2004 it has organised Ethical Fashion Show which has become the trade show of reference on ethical fashion.

Q: What are the aspects of the designer selection?

The main application form for the Ethical Fashion Show rests on a detailed 11 page questionnaire. Each applicant must fill this in.

It has 3 main parts :

1.Social goals and commitments
2.Environmental goals
3.Tradional skills

The answers to these questions as well as an overview of the brand’s design and style skills are taken into account in the selection process.

Q: Please name some designers who will take part in the 5th edition of the Ethical Fashion Show.

Concerning the 2008 participants, we are in the middle of the selection process so I cannot give you any names yet. However I can say that we will have designers from all over the world, France, UK, Usa, Brazil, Peru, Australia, Cameroon, Italy, India so far.

Q: Can designers take part in the show without being invited/selected by Ethical Fashion Show? Until when can they enter?

Each designer participating must go through our selection process to take part. Applications are still open until end of May, forms can be downloaded on our website ethicalfashionshow.com.
