Fashion design major Soo Jung Sung (born in Yeosu, raised in Seoul, Korea) was inspired by the movie Blue Swallow (Cheong-yeon) about Park Kyung-won, the first female aviator in Korea. Based on early 1900s Korean history when conservatism and discrimination against women evokes a heroine that had an independent spirit for her job. Soo Jung Sung reinterprets in this collection Pilot uniforms and Asian influences.
Textile designer Ivanka Georgiev (born and raised in Pernik, Bulgaria) bonded newsprint paper and brown paper to the base fabric, applied pigments using silkscreen techniques and drew patterns that represent the land using a knife to visualize the pilot’s point of view overlooking the land from above.
Ivanka Georgiev ignores typical industry standards of textiles to push creativity to its limits.
