Trend Forecast 2011 by German designers: 'Showing Emotions'

In November 2009, the VDMD (Association of German Fashion and Textile Designers) introduced the new color trends for summer 2011. The designers develop the colors from the forecasts of 17 trend offices with regard to themes, colours and philosophy for the fashion, textile, interior and consumer goods industry. The VDMD trends are presented on the association's website, at the trend areas on IGEDO fashion fairs, Heimtextil, ISPO and Munich Fabric Start, and two times a year at special trend days organised for designers, industry and trade in Germany.

For summer 2011, the German designers have elaborated the colors on the central theme 'Showing Emotions' which stands for the most important trend in the next years: the growing awareness for social responsibilities (keyword: sustainability).

'Showing Emotions' is the leading theme for the five trend themes

  • Expectation (optimistic view on the world's situation; the vision of green oasis in cities are inspiring this color chart)
  • Remembrance (romantic view on traditional values in a modern-baroque style in washed out coloring)
  • Cheerfulness (childhood, especially the modern 'Heidi' from the Alps brings the bright colors of the mountain green and its flowers into the slightly ironical style)
  • Proudness (the people are proud of their achievements and express this with futuristic elegance in metallic colors, night blue, copper red and silver white)
  • Freedom (the experience of the increasingly falling distinctions between sport, leisure and work time causes an easy style of living; the urban chic is made of a new styled sportswear in light colors, accompanied by graphite grey and quicksilver)

The summer 2011 trends are available as color charts with descriptions of the inspirations, colors, patterns, materials and its surfaces at the VDMD.
