"50+1" is a product of my extended residence in Mexico City and, in part, comments upon the rigid stratification of social classes and the complex visual codes such hierarchies produce. I created stiff, sculptural black capes that are not meant to be worn but stand together en masse – the absence of human bodies producing a rather sinister effect and critically commenting upon the extent to which we as individuals are managed by symbolic codes and the powers that operate through them."
