Swedish artist Maria Friberg explores in her elegant new series of video and photographs embedded the constructs of masculine power and creates a pictorial allegory of the relationship between nature and human culture in the contemporary world. The three men lie in billowy white material - are they protected or isolated?
“The men come from all parts of the world, a world where everyone is both unique and replaceable. The images are about natural beauty, but also about the way the world is slowly collapsing.” Maria Friberg elaborates, “They are about knowledge and power, about the impossibility of seeing the big picture, in private life as well as in the world at large. In contemporary society, information itself is embedded - it is simultaneously out in the open and hidden away, paradoxically wrapped around itself.”
