Sergey Kaptilkin (Russia) is with his "FASHION BACK STAGE" photo story one of 10 professional and 7 amateur photographers that have been selected for each of the in sum eleven categories out of a total of 25,934 amateur photograph entries and 44,641 professional photograph entries. Since February 2008 you can check out the work of the shortlisted photographers on www.worldphotographyawards.org. The Honorary Board chooses the category winners as well as the overall amateur and professional winners until April 2008.

Q>Sergey Kaptilkin, what makes the backstage area so interesting for you?
A>I work in very many genres of photography; I love the way in which a photo is a documentation and objectivity of a life. The backstage for me is real fashion life. When we are looking at the magazine covers and watching a new fashion collection on podiums we can't imagine how much effort and hard work has been put in to create this beautiful world. I wish my photos to show the party of a fashion hidden from extraneous sights.
Q>Who was the designer of the fashion show?
A>In general here (series), some authors of clothes and brands have been used, but this photo (F-k fashion industry) has been made on fashion parade by Russian group designers - "Fresh Art" - it is a brand.
Q>What is the fascination of fashion?
A>I think, the fascination of fashion is the desire of each person to correspond to new time. Getting any fashionable clothes, the person draws new plans for a life in the future. Therefore movement of a fashion always forward corresponds to an essence of mankind - progress.

Sergey Kaptilkin's inspiration for the photo "Backstage": Fashion industry is the most developing and profitable. Hundred of brands establish the rules in this business game. The same brands create the glamorous world of magazines, podiums, and mysterious beauty of happy and prosperous world. When we are looking at the magazine covers and watching a new fashion collection on podiums we can't imagine how much effort and hard work has been put in to create this beautiful world. The models play the happy roles of their characters like actors in the theatre, but behind the stage the hard work, nerves and tension are left. This "FASHION BACK STAGE" photo story is supposed to show the hidden atmosphere of fashion shows to people.
