Hunting is a favorite motive for Viennese culture in fall. The garden of the Augarten castle which houses the porcelain manufactory is an old hunting castle built in 1704 by Emperor Joseph I. The region was at that time an old "Danube-forest" (you can find parts of this forest still in Vienna and Lower Austria).

In 1718 Augarten was founded. It was Europe’s second porcelain manufactory. In the 1920ies the manufactory started to produce designs by contemporary artists including Josef Hoffmann, Michael Powolny, Franz von Zülow, and other representatives of the Vienna Workshops (Wiener Werkstätte).
