CHRISTIAN SIRIANO
fall/winter 2011/12

Designing a black orchid

On 10 February 2011, US designer Christian Siriano presented his new FW2011/12 collection during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York.

Christian Siriano is a phenomenon of today's 'reality' media age. The designer's career started with the reality TV show 'Project Runway' - a format which is in the meanwhile like 'Dancing Stars', 'Next Top Model' or 'Next Super Star' common entertainment in the Western world and big business for media companies. It is very rare that someone who is a winner at one of these shows become successful in 'real life'. Normally, the names are forgotten after one season. Christian Siriano seems to be an exception. The designs of 2007's 'Project Runway' winner can be described as US couture which stands for a practical approach to luxurious French tailoring.

Additionally, the designer has the talent to produce with some of his pieces a mystical, thrilling aura around the wearer.

Christian Siriano designs for celebrities like Heidi Klum, Lady Gaga, or Whoopi Goldberg who wore a Siriano-dress at the 2008 Tony Awards. For Oprah Winfrey his designs are "works of art."
