Art over generations
Addicts of exclusive fragrances know the German born, New York-based feminist artist Kiki Smith also from her perfume. In 2010, Kiki Smith released her first fragrance 'Eau de Kiki' in a hand-decorated flacon with Swarovski crystals. The creation of the scent 'Eau de Kiki' was inspired by her grandmother's garden and is available in art and fashion stores such as seen last year in Vienna.
Now, Kiki Smith's inspirational family life is on view in a museum exhibition in Bielefeld.
From 23 September until 25 November 2012, the Kunsthalle Bielefeld presents on occasion of the 100th birthday of Kiki Smith's father, the American architect and sculptor Tony Smith (1912-1980) works by the family members 'Kiki Smith / Seton Smith / Tony Smith'. The exhibition will show connections of the daughters' art to their father's work; Seton Smith (born 1955) began her career with photographs of her father's architecture, and the multi-disciplinary art work by Kiki Smith (born 1954) will be represented with pieces like the sculpture which is on view on this page.
