2 May 2012 - Short Message
#Design, #fashion, #media, art, technology are themes at the Parsons The New School For Design Festival in New York (1 - 20 May 2012)
From 1 to 20 May 2012, the Parsons Festival in New York presents the current themes of the school's specialized education programs concerning fashion, design, media, art, technology with exhibitions and lectures such as the one with the title 'Integration of Design and Research' where conventional disciplinary distinctions and the possible mix of methodologies will be questioned on 16 May.
The festival opened on 1 May 2012 with the 'Parsons Fashion Show' with fashion pieces on the catwalk and exhibition of works by graduating students from the BFA, AAS and MFA fashion programs. The school is known for famous alumni, including Marc Jacobs '84. Additionally, the School of Fashion at Parsons exhibits students' clothing creations and multimedia installations from 12 to 20 May.
To mention only two other interesting exhibitions from a long list of events: from 5 until 20 May, the MFA Design and Technology program exhibits objects, apps, games, and "interactive experiences that explore the dynamic role of technology in our current lives. ... We invoke the playful, the informative, the employering, the critical, and the subersive to investigate emerging issues and provoke discussion." newschool.edu/parsons/festival-events-2012
And at - for example, 'Bike Task Force: An Installation on Urban Sustainability' on 11 May, the students present an installation with incorporated bicycle that communicates ideas about energy and energy use.
