TRENDLETTER 13-May-2021

Visiting hair salons with entry tests or vaccination pass? Since 3rd May, hairdressers have been allowed to open their salons for customers. Now after one week with open doors, hair salon owner Katharina Strassl provided some insights into her business during and after the lockdowns. Katharina Strassl is one of the prominent coiffeurs of Vienna. She is especially known for practical hair styles which are developed from international trends and interpreted for the individuality of the wearer. One of the currently applying problems for customers, alongside experimental DIY haircuts or coloring of grey hair, are the obligatory Covid-19 tests before getting a new haircut at the salon...

Blankets for picnics and outdoor areas of restaurants or cafés From 19 May, gastronomy is allowed to open the outdoor and indoor spaces for guests again. For the ones who prefer 'open-air', Austrian textile and fashion producer Steiner1888 released new models of blankets for gastronomy visits or picnics. The company from the region of the mountain range Dachstein (Salzburg, Styria) has strong roots in mountaineering and the development of durable textiles used for sporty outdoor activities, everyday wear developed from traditional Austrian clothing, home textiles like blankets or cushion sleeves and upholstery fabrics...

'Dancer Against Cancer' presents Austrians from theater, film, sport,...with Renaissance, Baroque painting-like portraits photographed by Manfred Baumann
The photos are literally 'artworks'. For the 10th time, Vienna-based photographer Manfred Baumann portrayed well-known personalities, mainly Austrians, from TV, music, sport and society. The styling for the painting-like portraits with Renaissance and Baroque costumes and matching hair, makeup provide new perspectives on the media-proven faces. One of them is Austrian former ski jumper (first person worldwide who flew over 200 meters, Olympic and World Cup medalist) Andreas Goldberger who is known for being one of the faces of the Wings for Life World Run and for his activities as talent scout of young ski jumpers. Goldberger is almost unrecognizable with the untamed, not very aerodynamic eyebrows...

Triumph of diligence, unconditional basic income, predictably unpredictable future,... are topics of three highlights of the upcoming Wiener Festwochen (starting in mid-May 2021) The programme of the upcoming Wiener Festwochen is online! It's the 70th edition of the festival which was re-organised after World War II in 1951. Fashion.at navigated through the online programme via calendar which starts with events like the anniversary concert or the 'Festzug' by dancer, performance artist Florentina Holzinger and musician Soap&Skin on 14 May in front of the Vienna City Hall at the Rathausplatz. The 'Festzug' references the early beginnings of the Wiener Festwochen in 1929 before the reorganisation in 1951. In 1929, a pageant of trades (in German 'Gewerbefestzug') happened during the Wiener Festwochen for honoring handicrafts. The artist was inspired by the historical event, where labour and dance were linked together, and today's society. At Florentina Holzinger's 'Festzug', human bodies and machines seem to exist already in a symbiosis...

Austrian designer and couturier Eva Poleschinski launched new line for in- and outside made from textiles with photo prints of nature The prints are derived from aerial photos the designer made in Iceland. The results are five color themes inspired by the nature of Iceland which is also named the Land of Fire because of its volcanoes: River (icy grey on chrome), ash (cooled lava on stone), fog (extraordinary colors that make think of the lights of the clouds in Iceland), coast (blue-white like the water and foam of the ocean) and iron (a fiery orange lava stream on blue-grey stone)...

Austria Insight: Online booking service for chalets which can be used for combined vacation and remote working Even when the situation begins to relax in May and 'living in isolation' will hopefully fall soon in oblivion, Fashion.at searched for holiday destinations where it's possible to live embedded into nature and comfortably secluded from the hurly-burly of a metropolitan city. The found destinations have an additional favor: The prices are affordable which makes the vacation destinations also interesting for the ones who can work remotely. At farmholidays.com or in German language at urlaubambauernhof.at, users can search countrywide after chalets (in German 'Almhütten')...
