THE BIARRITZ ROXY JAM
FESTIVAL OF FEMALE SURF, MUSIC & ART
11th to 16th July 2008
Côte des Basques – Biarritz - France
The lifestyle of
boardriding women
Roxy (since more than 15 years wellknown clothing label for boardriding women) celebrates femininity and eclecticism with female athletes, artists and musicians during the annual Roxy Jam in July in Biarritz, France.
For Roxy, surfing, snow- or skateboarding are a way of being and a way of life that has pushed the limits of boardsports.
THE POSTER
Therefore even this year they have collected artists who live the same lifestyle, such as French artist Sylef. He designed the Roxy Jam poster (picture right). Sylef is
renowned for his poetic and colourful imagination
with an overriding theme of the ocean and travel.
The longboarder featuring on this year’s Roxy Jam
poster is a figment of his imagination for whom he has
invented a certain style, a personality, transfixed on the surf at the mythical Côte des Basques recoloured
as a tropical beach surrounded by lush vegetation.

ART Art workshops and an art exhibition organised by the gallery “Spacejunk”, curated by
Jerome Catz, are focussing
on the theme femininity and surfing. In the exhibition entitled “Girls by Girls” forty works by female artists from different disciplines (digital painting, photography,
video, sculpture,...) are shown.
Graffiti art is typical for the Roxy lifestyle of freedom and adventure: Marianne from Grenoble and Sofia Maldonado from Brooklyn present their urban street art. Mathilde Darel is presenting her unique style
of photography: the negative being developed
in a cyanide based solution giving the images
unusual shades of blue. The Basque Zako (she has already signed with one of the biggest Spanish art galleries) unveils her sculpture especially
created for the occasion: a giant wave to greet visitors
to the exhibition.
