"Le Costume"

Peter Brook, one of the greatest stage directors of the 20th century, will be represented by two productions at the Vienna Festival 2001. The story "Le Costume" (The Suit) by South African author Can Themba narrates how an unfaithful wife is forced to live with a suit to atone for her transgression. Mothobi Mutloatse and Barney Simon have adapted the text for the stage. Peter Brook directs the bitter play set in the legendary Johannesburg neighbourhood Sophiatown, where artists and intellectuals found shelter from the apartheid regime alongside criminals, drug addicts and pleasure seekers.
