Car couture in Paris
Yesterday on 30 September 2014, the new Fiat '500 Ron Arad Edition' was presented during a cocktail organized together with Condé Nast's 'L'Uomo Vogue' at the car maker's MotorVillage at Rond-Point des Champs-Elysées right in time with Paris Fashion Week as the new edition focuses on 'Couture' in the meaning of customization or individualization which is central for today's fashion. Ron Arad's creation (first image on this page) for the bodywork is one of three from the Fiat '500 Couture' line. Ron Arad references the history of the car with a sketch (white lines on black) of the first model from 1957. The second on this page is the one with thrilling dark camo pattern. The third has a funny appeal and expresses more than the others 'Couture' in the meaning of fashion technology; it's named '500 Comics' and is on view at the bottom of this page. The '500 Comics' shows painted seams on the body - such as the car is made from textile. It could also remind a stuffed toy.
The Fiat '500 Couture' cars will be shown from 4 to 19 October 2014 at Paris Motor Show (where by the way the exhibition 'Cars and Fashion' will throw light on collaborations of various brands with fashion designers, artists, photographers); the car with Ron Arad's bodywork will be available from November. It's announced that "the car will be delivered directly to the new owner's home together with an accurate 1:18 scale model in a showcase." Nice!
