Guided tours behind the scenes of mountain cable cars and slope maintenance services for ski sports in Austria
Skiing, snowboarding are the favorite winter sports activities of the Austrians. The popularity of skiing started in combination with ski-mountaineering in the 1920ie. In the 1950ies, the winter sports activity became literally accessible for everyone - thanks to the mountain infrastructure with transportation opportunities like cable cars for bringing skiers uphill and slopes that make the downhill experience more secure. Today, selected Austrian ski regions are well connected and allow people to cross areas and even country borders on the back and sides of mountains.
This winter season 2017/18, two tours provide insights into the history of mountain cableways and the making of slopes inclusively their maintenance.
