Fiat 500 is part of the exhibition 'The Value of Good Design' at MoMA in New York (10 Feb - 27 May 2019)
The upcoming MoMA exhibition 'The Value of Good Design' explores the democratizing impact of mass-market products in the fields furnishings, sporting goods, electronics, transport design,... on society beginning with the 1930s, with special focus on the years of social and economic reconstruction after World War II. Visitors will get an insight what makes product design long-lasting.
Among the selected products, the most popular Fiat 500, the 500 F which was produced between 1965 and 1972. The model was acquired last year by The Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Italian designer and engineer Dante Giacosa is the father of the Fiat 500. From the 1920ies, Giacosa worked for Fiat and developed the predecessor of the Fiat 500, the 'Topolino' in the 1930s. After the war, the Fiat 500 was launched as Nuova 500 in 1957. Its successor, the Fiat 500 F was designed as affordable four seater for the mass-market. It was produced from 1965 until 1972. In 2007, the Fiat 500 was launched as retro-design interpretation of the 1957 Nuova and received several awards such as the 'Car of the Year' trophy.
