10 Dec 2010 - Early art-music film: 'Rainbow Dance' by Lye Len (1936)
Pioneering experimental film-maker Lye Len (1901 - 1980) has mixed for this 1930s movie that shows a dancer, hand painted celluloid with a music piece. The result is an animation that follows the rhythm of the music and the body - a sort of modern art dance painting in motion. The MICA - Maryland Institute College of Art (US) invites to apply to the pioneering graduate program 'Social Design' (deadline: 15 January 2011) about the active role of a designer in changing lifestyles, raising awareness, and influencing public policy. "There is a growing interest and understanding in the world of design related to the designer's role and responsibility in society, specifically the belief that social change can happen through design."

9 Dec 2010 - Movie trailer with music by Lou Reed, David Bowie about photojournalism: 'The Bang Bang Club' (2010)
The movie is about the four photographers Ken Oosterbroek, Joao Silva, and the Pulitzer Prize winners Greg Marinovich and Kevin Carter, who have captured the final days of Apartheid in South Africa. Recently, a website showing works by one of 'The Bang Bang Club'-members Joao Silva - the New York Times photographer was injured by stepping on a landmine in Afghanistan this year, opened on joaosilva.photoshelter.com with vintage prints from images taken between 1993 - 1996 in South Africa.

The fashion charity is organised together with Alonzo Mourning's Overtown Youth Center and 'YDCO - Young Dreams Community Outreach' with the aim to support educational, social, and recreational programs for the youth. 7 Dec 2010 - Prize to sound artist who explores space
On 6 Dec, fashion designer Miuccia Prada has announced UK sound artist Susan Philipsz as this year's Turner Prize winner for the installation of a Scottish 16th century song (a lament) in an empty room. Susan Philipsz sings the song herself. The article with video on Sky.com shows the award ceremony; Susan Philipsz words of thanks were overtoned by the soundscape of students, who protested outside the Tate Britain gallery for a better education. Sky.com cites one of the students: "Those artists would not be able to fill up those galleries if they did not have free education and a good investment in arts education." From 26 February to 12 June 2011, new works by Susan Philipsz will be exhibited under the title 'We Shall Be All' at the MCA Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago.

6 Dec 2010 - Young artists on time and memories
Fashionoffice has received information about two exhibitions, where young artists are presenting their work about time and memories. The Kunsthalle Wien in Austria shows from 15 Dec - 16 Jan the 'Time Boxes' by the Poland born, in Vienna living Monika Piorkowska. Each of the boxes represents a computer/skype-conversation of the artist with a person from somewhere around the globe and is a symbol for moments, evanescence, and memories. 5 Dec 2010 - Music tip on occasion of 'Krampus': 'Passive' by Perfect Circle
On 5 Dec, costumed young men appear as the mythological figure 'Krampus' in the European Central Alps, especially in Austria. The demon 'Krampus' punishes the ones who had done wrong. The young men are vanguards of the 'good one' - Sankt Nikolaus, who brings the gifts one day later on 6th Dec. The video fits perfectly to the old tradition of good and bad and the promised salvation and punishment. It shows scenes from the movie 'Constantine' (2005) with Rachel Weisz and Keanu Reeves (he can see half-angels, half-demons and can enter and leave hell) in the starring roles mixed with glowing, burning images of the band playing on stage. The song 'Passive' by the US band 'Perfect Circle' (co-founded by Maynard James Keenan, known even from 'Puscifer') was used in the movie 'Constantine'.

4 Dec 2010 - Fashion video: History stitched on flight jackets
New York based designer Brian Wood has visualized 60 years of American history with patches showing icons like Marilyn Monroe, The Beatles, Michael Jackson... and cult objects like Rubik's Cube on flight jackets by Alpha Industries on occasion of the label's 50 anniversary (founded 1959). Now, the jackets are on traveling exhibition. In July 2010, they had been shown at Bread & Butter in Berlin, followed by the exhibition in the AG Contemporary Art Gallery in NYC in October 2010.

4 Dec 2010 - Calendar 2011: Cats in fashion pieces
The New York based design label United Bamboo has released a limited editon of a 12 month calendar showing kittens in United Bamboo fashion. The UK newspaper 'The Telegraph' publishes comments about the pieces the cats wear and what they like and not such as July-model TJ aka Thomas Jefferson wearing a 'jungle' print evening dress. "TJ doesn't like it if there are no options. She often freaks out..."

...from the album 'Modern Rituals'. The 4 members of Chief from Santa Monica, California mix the melancholic rock melody with sunny light guitars. The video provides refreshing impressions from the beach, board riding and other holiday sceneries that look like moving postcard images where the people's faces are anonymized. The British arts, entertainment and cultural PR agency 'Idea Generation' with own exhibition space has opened its archive and selected some photo prints (limited editions, signed) of icons from the music business like 'Ringo, Lennon + McCartney' photographed by John 'Hoppy' Hopkins or 'David Bowie' by Mick Rock for the 'Christmas Gift Guide'-online shop.
